Project developed for LAR by Mauricio Ceballos and Team.
A collaborative design between Fernando Romero and Mauricio Ceballos, the museum was commissioned to house the private collection of Carlos Slim.
Featuring nearly 70,000 works of art spanning from the 15th to the mid-20th century, the collection includes the largest Auguste Rodin sculptures.
Designed as an iconic structure to anchor a new real estate zone, Plaza Carso, the project posed the challenge of utilizing local technology and labor exclusively. The solution involved a tubular structure supported by 28 columns, constructed by an oil company within the owner’s group, forming the base for the 150-foot-tall building.
The cladding was meticulously designed using a simple yet elegant concept, employing 17,000 hexagonal elements. Remarkably, these elements were fabricated and installed within a record time of just six months.
